Road ecology blog: Gopher snake (Pituophis catenifer) on trail, Missoula, Montana, USA. Interestingly, the snake vibrated its tail. When on the bare dirt it actually resembles the sound made by a rattlesnake. The gopher snake is not venomous though.

California: Bridalveil creek below Bridalveil Fall, Yosemite National Park in spring, California, USA. I used a slow shutter speed of 30 seconds to make the water smooth and have unsharpness of the branches swaying in the wind.

Road ecology blog: Wild turkey chicks (Meleagris gallopavo) roadkill, Hwy 49 south of Chinese Camp, California, USA. Over the last few days I showed a wild turkey female killed by a car. There were 5 dead chicks within a few yards from her (see images below). The reason I show images of all the dead chicks is to illustrate that a whole turkey family was wiped out just like that...

As a result calcium carbonate-limestone is formed around the spring. In time the deposits grow into rocks and towers. This process only takes place underwater. The tufas at Mono Lake are exposed because water levels dropped after 1941 when water diversions began. Water levels were allowed to rise again since 1994, but they are still about 2 m (9 ft) below the goal.
