This is where I show the most recent images and talk about how they were made. The images typically relate to landscapes and wildlife, but I also blog about photos of highways and mitigation measures for wildlife or road ecology in general. Please contact me if you would like to use any of the images.

Abstracts of sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis), Platte River, Nebraska, USA.
Cranes have a shape and movement that makes them a great candidate for abstracts. The images below were made in low light situations. I used different combinations of slow shutter speed and panned along with the flying birds.

Sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis) landing at dusk, Platte River, Nebraska, USA. The cranes sleep while standing in the shallow water. It is safe because they can hear when predators approach through the water. The first image was made by panning along with the landing cranes. In combination with the slow shutter speed it created the streaks across the image. The second image is more traditional and shows large groups of cranes at the same spot. Both images were shot with very high ISO as it was practically dark.
