Sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis) landing at dusk, Platte River, Nebraska, USA. The cranes sleep while standing in the shallow water. It is safe because they can hear when predators approach through the water. The first image was made by panning along with the landing cranes. In combination with the slow shutter speed it created the streaks across the image. The second image is more traditional and shows large groups of cranes at the same spot. Both images were shot with very high ISO as it was practically dark.
