Helped someone who got his 2wd mini-van high centered in the loose sand, Valentine National Wildlife Refuge, Nebraska, USA. We jacked up the vehicle, placed sand under the wheels, repeated the process with more sand, and then put some planks under the wheels and removed sand from under the center of the vehicle so it could gain some momentum. That did the trick... but it took some time. A good reminder for why we wanted the van to be 4x4 and high clearance... and yes... this location is a long way from help...

Marcel Huijser takes a solar shower. Just because you live out of a van for extended periods doesn't mean you shouldn't take care of some personal hygiene! :)  Just fill the black bag with water, have it sit in the sun for a few hours, et voilà... you can take a warm shower!

Sunrise at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge, Nebraska. I arrived at the blind one hour before sunrise, waiting for the sharp-tailed grouse. Turned out, it wasn't just the birds that were spectacular!

Female greater prairie chicken (Tympanuchus cupido), Valentine National Wildlife Refuge, Nebraska. The females walk around the lek to check out the males. The males do their best to impress the females. The females take their time selecting the "best" male. While there may be a dozen or a few dozen males at a lek, almost all the mating is done by just one or two males. So, the females know what they are looking for, and they are all looking for the same thing!
