Coyote (Canis latrans) seeking protection, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. This coyote had just been eating off an elk carcass; there is a bit of blood still on the right side of its face. The elk had been killed by wolves (Junction Butte pack) but when the wolves returned, the coyote literally had to run for its life as one of the wolves chased it away from the carcass. The coyote then appeared to seek "shelter and protection" from the wolves by staying with people watching the spectacle.
