This is where I show the most recent images and talk about how they were made. The images typically relate to landscapes and wildlife, but I also blog about photos of highways and mitigation measures for wildlife or road ecology in general. Please contact me if you would like to use any of the images.

This was originally a bridge for people only across the A28 motorway near Zeist, The Netherlands. It was a local road with low traffic volume. Later part of the bridge was deidicated to nature and wildlife. Soil and root wads were put on one side of the bridge and vegetation began to grow. One lane remained open to human use, including motorized traffic for people who live just off this road, and also for pedesrians, bicyclistes and horseback riders.

First Friday: Exhibit at Freshwater Studio 5-8 pm

Exhibit at Freshwater Studio

Friday 6 June 5-8 pm

Some of my images are now on display at Freshwater Studio 101 E Broadway in Missoula.

Join me this First Friday 6 June at Freshwater Studio 5-8 pm. See the image of the muskox below in a large format print on canvas. The image was made a few months ago in Norway when I joined my friend and fellow photographer Niels Kooijman and we spent 13 days winter camping and photographing muskoxen in the snow.

Freshwater Studio is run by Bob Montgomery and the gallery hosts some really cool work by several painters and photographers. Bob is also a specialty printer and custom framer.

The gallery is located on Broadway just a few steps east from Higgins (same entrance as Bhavana).

I hope to see you there!

LIMITED EDITION Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) in a snowy lanscape, Dovrefjell National Park, NorwayLIMITED EDITION Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) in a snowy lanscape, Dovrefjell National Park, NorwayMuskox (Ovibos moschatus) in a snowy lanscape, Dovrefjell National Park, Norway. Muskoxen evolved in Asia and adapted to arctic tundra environments. Muskoxen became extinct in Europe (last records are from Sweden about 9,000 years ago) and Asia (last records are from the Taymyr peninsula in Russia about 2,000 years ago), probably primarily as a result of over hunting by people. Muskoxen crossed into North America from Siberia between 200,000 and 90,000 years ago and they survived in Alaska, northern Canada and Greenland. Muskoxen were reintroduced in Europe and Asia relatively recently. Muskoxen were first reintroduced in Dovrefjell National Park in Norway in 1931-1932, but these animals were all killed during the second world war. A second reintroduction attempt (1947-1953) was successful though. The muskoxen population size in Dovrefjell National Park is currently estimated at several hundred individuals.
