Images below: Montana wildlife: Ground squirrel (Urocitellus sp.) in super color infrared, Montana, USA.

I had a camera converted to an infrared camera with a super color filter that still lets through some visible light. Below are some of the first results. I attached a movement sensor to the camera with a wide angle lens to make images of this ground squirrel at a burrow. I think the structure of the sage brush stem in the first image (right hand side) is spectacular... and the colors suggest another planet... perhaps Mars, the red planet!

The third photo down below is a "normal" image to show the contrast with the first two images that are in infrared.

Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) at a sage grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) lek, Montana, USA. The eagle attacked the sage grouse from the east so that the sage grouse - blinded by the morning sun - could not see the eagle as it approached. Fortunately for the sage grouse the eagle missed and the sage grouse scattered and flew away. It sat on the ground for a minute before taking off again and flying by my blind.

Road ecology blog: Wildlife underpass for Florida panthers (Puma concolor coryi) and wildlife bridge across canal, SR 29, Florida, USA. The bridge across the canal allows for an easy access to the underpass (rather than swimming across the canal). The posts on the bridge are designed to be a barrier for motorized vehicles such as ATVs.

The water is a canal that runs parallel to the highway. This canal was dug out by people; it is not a natural creek or river. The canal probably allowed the roadbed to be constructed higher (the construction crews probably used the rocks and soil from the canal to make the roadbed higher) and it allows for better drainage from the highway. However, the canal can also be regarded as a linear barrier for wildlife, similar to the highway itself. So, to allow for an easy (i.e. dry) approach for wildlife to the underpass, a bridge over the canal was constructed.
