Face plant
Great gray owl (Strix nebulosa), near Missoula, Montana.
The owl is on a vertical descent to catch a vole under the snow. The second image shows the moment the owl's face hits the snow. Note: Just before the owl hits the snow, it stretches it's legs forward and spreads it talons, ready to catch the vole. So, technically the owl breaks the snow crust with it's feet rather than it's face.
