It is surprising how much light there is at night if you leave the shutter open for a minute or so. Here is an image of a star filled sky over a mountain lake.

This white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) doe took off running as soon as she saw me. I moved the camera along with the animal to blur out the back ground.

Aquatic vegetation in black and white, Idaho, USA

Salsify (Tragopogon spp.) are non-native and have spread through must of the western United States. These species have large seed heads that are quite noticeable. I created this image by shooting against the setting sun with open aperture. Click here to see an additional image of the salsify seed heads.

Yellow salsify (Tragopogon dubius) seed heads in a meadow at sunset, Montana, USA

A few weeks ago there was an impressive sky over the North Hills in Missoula, Montana. A thunderstorm was rolling in with some nice mammatus clouds while the setting sun threw in some nice light. For the image below I focused on the tree in the foreground and opened up the aperture to fuzz out the hill with the golden grassland. Mammatus and thunderstorm clouds and North Hills, Missoula, Montana, USA

This is an interesting road sign. Normally these types of signs tell people to not feed wildlife that may be begging for food on or alongside the road. Here however, people are urged not to leave any food behind. Apparently people leave crumbs or perhaps substantially more food when they use these pull-outs to eat. Columbian ground squirrel (Urocitellus columbianus), Montana, USA

Wow.... a wolverine (Gulo gulo)! One of the rarest mammals of North America and all of a sudden it was there. It was all very quick and I scrambled to get my camera ready. Unfortunately there is quite of bit of unsharpness in the images as I was struggling to stabilize the lens, keep the animal in the viewfinder and still get at least some images and also actually see the animal with my own eyes before it disappeared over the ridge. Wolverine (Gulo gulo), Montana, USA

Some birds are so brightly colored that you wonder whether that thing on the side of the road really was a roadkilled bird or perhaps some plastic garbage. I decided to stop and take a look.
