This is a relatively simple measure landowners can implement to reduce unnatural mortality of sage grouse, especially near leks. Livestock fences near leks that may not be necessary can be removed. Remaining livestock fences can be made more visible to sage grouse by attaching markers, reflectors or flags to the wires. They can be made out of vinyl strips. These measures are especially recommended in areas with relatively high population densities and near leks where sage grouse concentrate during the mating season. The fence markers reduce grouse fence strikes by about 70-80%.
