California: Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) tree, White Mountains. These trees can be thousands of years old... it is quite something to be walking around trees that have been living for such a long time already. One individual tree in this area was found to be 5,062 years old in 2012 (germination in 3,051 BC). Despite their age bristlecone pines are not tall; they grow in a dry and low nutrient environment and the growing season is very short at about 3000 m elevation.
