Road ecology blog: Double wide cattle guard as a barrier for deer (Odocoileus spp.) and elk (Cervus canadensis) at access road for NF 405A, at jct with SR 260, east of Payson, Arizona, USA. The 2nd image shows an opening on the side for drainage that also allows small species (e.g. small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates) that may have fallen into the pit to escape.
