Backyard wildlife in Missoula, Montana: House finch (Carpodacus mexicanus)

There are at least three different male house finches (Carpodacus mexicanus) that visit our bird feeder. They have slightly different patterns of red on their head and chest. There is also at least one female. House finches will also sing at the feeder, similar to the American goldfinch. I wonder if they are trying to claim the feeder as part of their territory.
