Root wads provide cover for small mammals, reptiles, amphibians

Root wads provide cover for small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates on ecoduct Natuurbrug Zanderij Crailoo, The Netherlands. The row of root wads guides the animals towards and across the overpass. This corridor is 50 m wide and has a path for non-motorized recreation as well as wildlife habitat. There is a livestock fence and shrubs and trees between the wildlife habitat and the trail to reduce disturbance to wildlife. The corridor is 800 m long and connects forrests and heathlands on both sides. The corridor consists of embankments and two bridges. One bridge spans a two-lane highway, the other a railroad and railroad yard. The embankment also goes through a golf course.
