Wildlife: Two-headed coyote (Canis latrans), Wyoming, USA
Wildlife: Two-headed coyote (Canis latrans), Wyoming, USA. These two coyotes were scent marking, had their tails up, were sniffing each other and were side by side.... it is mating season. In this image the two coyotes are lined up almost perfectly; it appears as if there is only one coyote with two heads. Click here for more coyote images.

Manatee expedition "the making of": the canoe
Manatee expedition: "the making of". Getting a canoe made a lot of sense in Florida. There is a lot of nature and wildlife, but most of this is only accessible by water. With the manatees in mind we bought this used canoe so that we could get to the site and stay as long as we wanted. We put in before first light and paddled towards the springs as the sun came up. The manatees come to these freshwater springs in the winter, especially during cold spells. The manatees do not tolerate long periods with a water temperature below 20C (68F). The springs are a constant 22C (72F) which is an attractant to the manatees in winter.

Click here for info on the nearby zoo Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park with manatees and other Florida wildlife. Most of the animals in the zoo are native to Florida and roam in relatively large enclosures. The animals, including manatees, can be viewed from a pathway, observation deck and underwater observatory. Wild manatees can often be seen from the observation deck.
